Which brush do I need for my Comandante C40?
For daily C40 care: #6 Long Neck reaches into the narrow bean hopper and pulls grounds out of the chamber; #3 Beard is small enough for the burr chamber and the area under the hopper. For all-around espresso setup care: #1 Barista or #2 MAX. If you run a sieve machine: add #5 Stainless for baked-on espresso residue.
What's the difference between pear, oak and beech on the #2 MAX?
Functionally identical — the three woods are a pure aesthetic choice. Pear has the classic Comandante look (same tone as the C40 knobs), oak is lighter with a strong grain, beech is neutral and matches any coffee-bar color. All three are solid, food-safely treated and the same size.
How do I take care of the brushes themselves?
Rinse horse-hair brushes gently with water every so often and let them air-dry — don't soak them, or the wooden handle will swell. The stainless-steel #5 can take a bit more, including some dish soap if needed. Rub the wooden handles occasionally with a drop of Comandante Wood Balm — it prevents drying and cracking.
Can I use the stainless-steel #5 on the burr?
On steel burrs (Comandante Nitro Blade, Red Clix RX35) yes — it doesn't damage the hardened steel. On ceramic burrs or coated ones, use with more care — stainless steel can attack coatings. When in doubt, prefer the horse-hair brushes.
