How do I know the gasket is worn?
Three signs: (1) plunger slides without feel-able resistance through the chamber, (2) water seeps past the edge instead of through the filter, (3) visible cracks or discoloration on the silicone.
How do I swap the gasket?
Pull the plunger out of the chamber. Roll the old gasket off the plunger end or push it off with your finger. Slide the new gasket over the plunger edge until it seats in the groove. Done.
Do Standard and XL gaskets fit only one machine each?
Standard is for AeroPress Original and Go only. XL is for AeroPress XL and XL Clear only. The plunger diameters differ, so only one size fits each model.
What if the gasket tears during the swap?
Almost never tears — silicone is very stretchy. If it does, the gasket is cheap and a replacement ships fast. Wetting with a little water before fitting eases the slide.
