NSF P152 is a specific standard for commercial espresso machine cleaners. It tests health effects and corrosivity of the ingredients and formulation. EVO is listed — you can use it in professional machines without risk.
Do I need a blind filter for backflushing?
Yes. A blind filter (blind basket, no holes) blocks the water outlet and forces the cleaning water back through the 3-way solenoid valve — exactly where the coffee oils collect. Without a blind filter, EVO doesn't work. Most espresso machines ship with one; otherwise order from the manufacturer.
How often should I backflush?
Café operation: daily at end of shift. Home use with lever or dual-boiler machines: weekly. Single-boiler home machines: every 2 weeks. Important: pull a test espresso afterwards and discard, to re-condition the group head.
Does EVO work on super-automatics?
No. EVO is designed for backflushing on traditional portafilter machines (E61, lever, saturated group heads). Super-automatics don't have a 3-way solenoid valve or a group head to backflush — they need machine-specific cleaning tablets (e.g. Jura, DeLonghi, Saeco).
