It's the dome-shaped center screw that holds the shower screen on the group head. Classic E61 groups and most commercial machines (La Marzocco, Synesso, Modbar, Slayer) use this format. Some home espresso machines use a hex or slotted screw instead — the Screen Driver Plus doesn't fit those.
Do I really need this tool — won't a screwdriver do?
It does — but with two problems: hot fingers close to the brewhead and uncontrolled torque. Overtightening with a screwdriver damages the group head thread — an expensive repair. The driver prevents both.
What's the brush attachment for?
When you remove the shower screen, the group housing and screen seat are often covered in coffee grit and ground residue. The brush attachment on the driver lets you clean both in one action — no separate tool.
How often should I remove and clean the shower screen?
Café operation: daily. Home use with a daily espresso routine: weekly. Combined with Cafetto EVO backflushing you get full group head cleaning — backflushing for the internal paths, driver + brush for the visible group area.
