Description

The Comandante Black Crank is the matte-black XL edition of the standard crank — longer lever, larger wooden knob, significantly less effort with every brew. It makes your C40 look all-of-a-piece in matte black.

The longer axle increases the lever and reduces the force you need to apply when grinding — a noticeable difference especially with dense, light specialty beans or larger doses (18 g+). The Big Joe knob in blackened oak is ergonomically optimized: it sits relaxed in your hand, no pressure point on your thumb anymore.

Fully compatible with all Comandante C40 MK3 and MK4 — you swap the standard crank in under 30 seconds, no tools needed. The black coating visually matches the Black edition of the C40, but also pairs cleanly with the wood and HD lacquer bodies.

Included: 1× Black Crank complete (XL axle + Big Joe knob in blackened oak + standard mount for the grind axle).

Tipps für die erste Tasse

Don't crank too fast — the XL geometry yields its benefits at normal rotation speed (~1 rotation per second). Too fast creates more burr heat.

Clean the wooden knob only dry — water or detergent can bleach the black lacquer over years. A dry microfiber cloth is enough.

If the crank is hard to attach the first time: the lever sits on a tapered fit that develops slight play over time. On first attachment, just press a bit firmer.

Does the Black Crank fit my C40 MK4?

Yes — 100% compatible with all C40 MK3 and MK4 (Standard, LAB Series, all color variants). Not for C40 MK2 or older (different axle system), also not for C60 Baracuda.

How do I swap the crank?

Unscrew the standard crank clockwise (lift it against the body), attach the Black Crank, twist counter-clockwise to tighten. No tools needed. Time: under 30 seconds.

Is the XL lever really noticeably better?

At normal doses (10–14 g), you notice the difference less. With larger doses (18 g+) and dense beans (light naturals, anaerobic), the XL variant is significantly more relaxed — about 20–30% less hand force per click.

Does the black coating hold up?

Yes — Comandante uses an abrasion-resistant powder coat that stays black even under heavy use. After years, the wooden knob may develop a slight patina, the axle stays black.
