The XXL axle is the longest available crank for the C40. Compared to the standard crank, required hand force is reduced by about 30–40%. For café volume, cupping sessions, or French-press doses (25 g+), it's the biggest noticeable comfort jump.

Description

The Comandante XXL Crank Oak Wood is the table-setup upgrade for any Comandante brewer: a heavy stainless-steel axle with a noticeably longer lever and a 55 mm Big Joe knob in solid German oak. More torque, less effort, significantly more refined looks.

The XXL axle is even longer than the standard XL variant (Black Crank) — you need even less force per click, especially with large doses for French press, cupping, or pour-over setups at café volume. The 55 mm knob in sanded oak feels like a high-quality tool — not like a plastic crank.

The axle is made from bare stainless steel (no lacquer that could chip), the oak knob develops a characteristic patina over time from hand contact. Fully compatible with all Comandante C40 MK3 and MK4.

Tipps für die erste Tasse

Don't treat the oak knob with oil or wax — Comandante deliberately leaves it untreated so it patinas naturally. Oil makes it slippery and disrupts the look.

On first attachment, the tapered fit may show some resistance — that's normal. Once tightened, it sits play-free.

If you use the C40 as a table grinder: XXL Crank + Big Joe knob form a visual unit that works like an art piece. Placement: visible, free-standing.

How does the XXL Crank differ from the Black Crank (XL)?

The XXL is even longer than the XL (Black Crank). Both have the Big Joe knob, but the XXL has bare stainless steel instead of black lacquer + natural oak instead of black-lacquered oak. Choice: XL = portable + sporty, XXL = table setup + refined look.

Which Comandante models does the XXL Crank fit?

All C40 MK3 and MK4 (Standard, LAB Series, all color variants). Not for C40 MK2 or older, not for C60 Baracuda, not for X25 Trailmaster.

Does the oak knob develop a patina?

Yes — that's intentional. Over time and through hand contact, the knob takes on a warmer color and a smooth, slightly glossy surface. That's normal behavior of untreated oak wood and adds character over time.

Does the XXL Crank have a torque limit?

Practically no — the burr set is always the limiting factor. You can use the XXL when grinding any Comandante-compatible bean (or other materials) without concern for the axle.
