Description

The Origami Dripper S Sabi is a limited porcelain edition from the ORIGAMI with Makers Project – inspired by traditional Kiso lacquerware and the Japanese wabi-sabi aesthetic.

The colourway was created for the project's third chapter, a collaboration with Maruyoshi Kosaka, a lacquer workshop founded in 1945 in Kiso-Hirasawa, Nagano Prefecture. No lacquer is applied to the dripper: Origami's porcelain maker Koyo Toki translates the depth and warmth of lacquerware into a glaze. The cream base with fine iron specks recalls sabi-tsuchi, the iron-rich base coat of Kiso lacquer. On top sits an amber glaze modelled on suki-urushi, a translucent lacquer.

Because the reactive glaze moves during firing, every piece varies in colour, gradation, gloss and texture – no two drippers look the same. Fine irregularities or small pinholes in the surface are part of the porcelain and not a defect.

Brewing stays exactly as you know it: the 20 ribs of the classic Origami Dripper S create air channels between filter and wall, the coffee drains evenly and you stay in control of the flow rate. Use cone or wave paper filters. Made for 1–2 cups. A holder is recommended for a stable setup and sold separately.

Tipps für die erste Tasse

Rinse filter and dripper with hot water first – it preheats the porcelain and removes the paper taste.

Brew the same coffee once with a cone and once with a wave filter – the difference in clarity and body is striking.

A wooden holder pairs especially well with the warm cream and amber tones.

Häufige Fragen

Deine Frage ist nicht dabei? Schreib uns an support@baristadelight.de.

What does Sabi mean?
Sabi refers to the wabi-sabi aesthetic and to sabi-tsuchi, the iron-rich base coat of Kiso lacquerware that the speckled cream base recalls.
Is the dripper lacquered?
No. The dripper is porcelain; the lacquer look comes purely from a reactive glaze developed by Origami's maker Koyo Toki.
Why does my dripper look different from the photos?
The reactive glaze flows during firing, so colour, gradation, gloss and specks vary from piece to piece – that's intended, not a defect.
Which filters fit?
Cone paper filters for a clear, defined cup and wave filters for a rounder cup – both fit size S.
