Description

The Origami Sensory Asymmetry Cup changes how you perceive your coffee — depending on which side you drink from.

This thoughtfully designed tasting cup features an asymmetrical rim with intentionally varied wall thicknesses. Sip from the thinner side and the coffee glides toward the back of the tongue — acidity and aroma move into focus. Switch to the thicker side and the liquid settles at the front and center of the tongue — body and depth come through.

Handcrafted from traditional Japanese Mino-Yaki porcelain, each cup individually polished. The dual-spout form sits naturally on the lip from either side — ideal for baristas who want to recommend a specific drinking angle based on origin, roast profile, or brewing style. Available in White — accentuating the subtle blue tones of light roasts — and Black with a "blind effect" — obscuring the coffee's color and directing focus to aroma and taste. 220 ml capacity, made in Japan.

Tipps für die erste Tasse

Switch sides while drinking — the same brew reveals different aroma nuances from each rim thickness.

Gentle swirling at decreasing temperatures — cooling coffee reveals additional aroma layers, much like wine tasting.

Pair with the matching coffee server to track aroma evolution from hot to lukewarm in parallel.

Was Kunden über uns sagen

Häufige Fragen

Deine Frage ist nicht dabei? Schreib uns an support@baristadelight.de.

How does the asymmetrical rim work?
The rim's wall thickness varies around the circumference. Sip from the thin side and the coffee flows further back in the mouth — acidity and aroma become more pronounced. From the thick side, the liquid lands at the front — body and sweetness step forward. You taste the same coffee from two sensory angles.
Why a black and a white variant?
The white variant reflects the coffee's color — you perceive the subtle blue tones of light roasts. The black variant blocks visual cues ("blind effect") — your focus is entirely on aroma and taste, free from visual bias. Competition baristas use black cups for sensory evaluation.
What is Mino-Yaki porcelain?
Mino-Yaki (美濃焼) is traditional Japanese ceramic from the Mino region in Gifu prefecture. Established as a tableware tradition for over 1300 years — known for durability, smooth surface, and neutral flavor. Origami exclusively produces its cups in this tradition.
Is this cup suitable for cupping?
Yes. The Sensory Asymmetry Cup was explicitly developed for sensory tasting and competitive cupping. The controlled form, neutral porcelain, and asymmetrical rim make it a precise tasting tool — equally suitable for pour-over, filter brews, and milk drinks.
