Warum es sich lohnt

Constant force on every tamp

Constant force on every tamp

The internal spring clicks through when the release threshold is reached — you tamp every time with the same force, regardless of daily form and with no constant practice. Consistent extraction is the anchor for reproducible espresso.

Lip ensures parallel base

Lip ensures parallel base

Above the base sits a lip that catches the portafilter rim. The tamper can't tilt — the puck surface comes out perfectly horizontal, no channeling from a skewed puck.

Ergonomically shaped handle

Ergonomically shaped handle

The black handle is matte-coated and shaped to the palm — even after 50 tamps in a shift, no pressure pain in the wrist.

Auf einen Blick

  • Spring mechanismInternal spring-loaded mechanism in the handle — the release threshold ensures constant tamp force on every shot.
  • 58 mm flat baseStainless steel base, fits all commercial 58 mm group heads (E61, La Marzocco Mini, Synesso Idr) and 58 mm home machines.
  • Anti-tilt lipSits above the base and rests on the portafilter rim — prevents skewed tamping, guarantees a parallel puck surface.
  • Ergonomic handleMatte-coated plastic handle shaped to the hand — relaxed tamping even on long shifts.

Description

The Rhino Coffee Gear Self-Levelling Tamper 58 mm delivers the same force and pressure on every tamp — no matter who's on the lever. Internal spring, classic 58 mm flat base, ergonomic handle. End uneven extraction caused by varying hand pressure.

The handle houses a spring mechanism: as you press down, the spring compresses until it reaches its release threshold — and clicks audibly/tangibly through. You tamp every time with the same defined force, regardless of how strong your hand feels. Above the base sits a lip that catches the portafilter rim — the tamper stays parallel to the puck, no wobble, no tilt.

58 mm flat base in stainless steel, fits all standard commercial group heads (E61, La Marzocco Mini, Synesso Idr, etc.) and 58 mm home machines. Black handle in matte-coated plastic, ergonomically shaped for relaxed tamping without wrist strain. Item code: RHSLTAMP58-BK. Weight: 0.36 kg, length: 73 mm.

Tipps für die erste Tasse

Wipe the tamper with a dry cloth after every shot — coffee residue collects on the base and can pull moisture into the spring mechanism.

The spring is sensitive to sideways pressure — always hold the tamper straight from above, not with a tilting motion.

Before tamping, briefly use WDT (Weiss Distribution Technique) or a distribution tool to even out the grind — the parallel tamp surface delivers the most consistency when the puck is already homogeneous.

Häufige Fragen

Deine Frage ist nicht dabei? Schreib uns an support@baristadelight.de.

What is a self-levelling tamper?
A tamper with two mechanisms: first, a spring in the handle that clicks through at a defined pressure threshold — you tamp every time with the same force. Second, a lip above the base that rests on the portafilter rim and holds the tamper exactly horizontal. Result: less channeling, more consistent extraction, less practice required.
Which machines fit 58 mm?
Most commercial espresso machines with standard 58 mm group head — La Marzocco Mini/Linea, ECM, Profitec, Synesso (Idr), Slayer Single, plus home machines with 58 mm portafilter (Gaggia Classic Pro with 58 mm conversion, Lelit Bianca, Rocket Espresso, Quick Mill). For different sizes (53/54 mm on smaller machines, 49 mm on vintage) it doesn't fit.
How hard do I press?
Press down on the handle with full hand pressure — when the spring clicks through, the tamper has reached the defined force (typically around 14–18 kg). Pressing further doesn't help because the mechanism caps the force. In the café workflow you learn the feel in two shifts — after that 100 % reproducible.
Do I need to polish after tamping?
No. The anti-tilt lip already keeps the tamper perfectly parallel — the classic additional "polish twist" for a smooth surface is unnecessary with a self-levelling tamper and can even introduce slight spin into the puck.
