Description

The Comandante C60 Baracuda is the next step in the Comandante universe — a manual grinder with a heavy unibody steel chassis and the largest burr set Comandante has ever built. Grinding throughput beyond any other hand brewer: well over 1 gram of coffee per second at filter settings, with uncompromising cup clarity.

The heart of it: the Baracuda burr set in Nitro Rex steel — an in-house development from the Bavarian Burr Lab. Harder, more corrosion-resistant, and lower-wear than any previous Comandante burr. The result in the cup: exceptional clarity, defined sweetness, balanced acidity.

The body is milled from a single block of steel (unibody) — no drivetrain play, no vibration during grinding. At 1 kg of body weight, the grinder sits firmly on the table — no need to hold it with a second hand. The Nautilus Blue coating is applied using a powder-coating process typically reserved for high-performance motor components.

For brewers who know the Comandante profile and want to take the next step — cuppings, filter coffee at café volume, or as a permanent table standard for demanding setups. Also suitable for tea, herbs, spices, and grain milling.

Tipps für die erste Tasse

The C60 is more sensitive to grind adjustments than the C40 — go in smaller steps, taste after each change.

Don't hold the body while grinding — the high weight keeps the grinder stable on its own; you lose ergonomics by holding it.

For tea/herbs/spices: no separate burr swap needed, but a brush cleaning between coffee and spices is mandatory (otherwise the coffee takes over the spice aroma).

How does the C60 Baracuda compare to the C40 MK4?

Bigger, heavier, faster. The C40 is the portable hand grinder for 1–2 cups per brew. The C60 Baracuda is for higher throughput: multiple brews back-to-back, cupping volume, or as a table grinder that stays put. Both use the Comandante click mechanism, but the C60 body sits firmly on the table (1 kg).

Which grind setting for which brewing method?

Espresso: 4–8 clicks. AeroPress: 10–14. Pour-over (V60, Chemex): 14–20. French press: 24–30. Cupping: 20–24. The scale starts at 0 (fine) — finer clicks than the C40 are possible since the larger burr handles more material faster.

What's the difference between Nitro Rex and Nitro Blade?

Nitro Rex is the next generation: higher hardness, better corrosion resistance, lower wear. The Baracuda burr uses this steel alloy for longer lifespan at higher grind frequency.

How long does the Baracuda burr last?

Under normal use, 15+ years. Under café volume (multiple kg per day), correspondingly shorter — but the grinder isn't built for that. Replacement burrs are available directly from Comandante.
